Chants have long been used as a means of altering one's consciousness in order to commune with and connect to the Divine. Chants can be fast moving, energy raising verses or they can be soft, whispered words, heard only by you and the Divine.
The way this meditation works is to simply use a combined of drumming or rattling and chanting until your mind enters into a deeper consciousness, while at the same time retaining enough conscious awareness so you can use this form of meditation to bring inspiration, information, and wisdom into your life through the connection you make within.
While using chanting as a form of meditation you need to stay sufficiently focused on your drumming, rattling and chanting so you do not drift off to sleep, as is possible with any other form of meditation, except perhaps for dance meditation. Let your energy rise and keep it flowing while letting yourself slide into an unconscious control.
By doing this meditation and others, you will have access to wisdom, inspiration and guidance. Your immediate benefit once you are able to achieve it, will come from whatever insights, inspirations, and guidance come to you while doing this. It is possible this with this meditation the guidance will continue to flow later through your dreams as well. If you meditate often it often it is possible to stay attuned, connected, if you will to the source of power within you.
It is just like when you first learned to ride a bike; this like all meditative technique takes time effort, determination. Your mother was correct, practice does make perfect. Meditation needs to be repeated and worked with even if in the beginning it seems as if you are getting no where. Everyone who learns to ride a bike falls off a few times before gaining their balance. Meditation will help you to connect with the piece of the Divine which resides within all of us. It is best to try and meditate at the same time every day. Letting your mind know this is the time of day when you will be practicing. Remember to dress in comfortable clothing, to meditate in a safe place, and breathe.
A simple repetitive Goddess revering chant such as the one below and the others which follow are repeated over and over until you feel yourself slide inward can be very effective.
'She changes everything she touches, and everything she touches changes.
She changes everything she touches, and everything she touches changes.
You are the weaver we are the woven ones, you are the weaver we are the web,
You are the weaver we are the woven ones, you are the weaver we are the web.

Mill of Magick
Air Breath and Air blow
Make the Mill of Magick go!
Work the Will for which I pray!
Io! Dia! Evoe!
Fire Flame and Fire Burn
Make the Mill of Magick Turn
Work the Will for which I pray!
Io! Dia! Evoe!
Water heat and Water boil,
Make the Mill of Magick toil
Work the Will for which I pray!
Io! Dia! Evoe!
Earth without and Earth within
Make the Mill of Magick Spin!
Work the Will for which I pray!
Io! Dia! Evoe!
Hoof and Horn
(I do not remember the author)
Hoof and horn, all that dies shall be reborn,
Corn and grain, all that falls shall rise again.
We all come from the Goddess, unto her we shall return
Like a drop of rain, flowing to the ocean”
Healing Chant
(author unknown)
Around the Circle, Throughout and about,
Healing within, healing without.
All health come in, all illness flee,
And by our will, So Mote It Be!
